The transport sector can look forward to an increase in volume of thirty percent in the coming 25 years. That is what the Swiss market researchers of the Prognos agency in Basel predict. The largest growth will be in the emerging economies. Prognos also expects further growth in the goods transportation in Europe. That growth is already visible, however it is expected to take approximately 5 years before the volume has reached the same level as it was before the economic downturn in 2007. Particularly countries such as Austria, Spain and Poland will benefit more than others from the increasing transport intensity. Growth is particularly predicted to occur in the so-called BRICS-countries (Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa). The rapidly developing markets will have doubled their transportation volume by 2040, researchers ascertain. The main share of the growth will be in China and India. The report also indicates a significant increase in Turkey.
